The anti-LGBTQ+ crowd has gotten particularly good at capitalizing on fear of the unknown in order to stir up resentment. That method is being employed on a number of fronts in Iowa, and the only way to meet it is through further education and involvement from our allies and the LGBTQ+ community itself.

The Heart of Iowa Democrats and Iowa Stonewall Democrats have partnered to present a forum to help educate and move us to action against the multiple hateful anti-LGBTQ+ bills moving through the Iowa legislature this session. These include an Iowa version of the “Don’t Say Gay” bill and a bill that would force teachers and school administrators to out LGBTQ+ kids to their parents, even if they’re not ready. (Click here and here for more information on these bills.)

Join moderator State Senator Zach Wahls (SD43), State Representative Elinor Levin (HD89), Damian Thompson, Director of Public Policy and Communications with Iowa Safe Schools, and Andrea Jayne, Equity Specialist for the Iowa City Community School District for a conversation about how this legislation would harm LGBTQ+ children and families, how we can come together to stop these bills, and how to support our LGBTQ+ community in Iowa moving forward.
