Odd Year Caucus and Biennial Organizing Meeting.

All Story County Precincts will meet together. All registered Democrats residing in Story County may participate. Voter registration is available at the Caucus or you can register or update your registration at https://mymvd.iowadot.gov/Account/Login?ReturnUrl=%2fVoterRegistration

Caucus registration will begin at 9:30 with the Caucus beginning at 10 am. You must know your precinct for the purpose of electing committee members for your precinct. To save time at registration, please look up your precinct in advance using the link below and make a note of it.

The purpose of Caucus Meetings in odd-numbered years is to nominate committee persons to fill precinct vacancies, and to discuss organizing plans. To view which Precincts have vacancies. click the line below. Each Precinct may have a total of 4 Committee Members, 2 Chairs and 2 Alternates. Due to reprecincting, some Precincts currently have more than 4 members. This will be addressed by the Precincts at the Caucus.

Immediately following the Caucus, the Biennial Organizing Meeting will be held. The purpose of the Meeting is to elect the Story County Democratic Central Committee Officers. All Precinct Chairs are entitled to vote. If a Precinct Chair is absent, the elected Precinct Alternate for that Precinct may vote.

The offices being elected are Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary. and Chairs of the Standing Committees. Any registered Democrat residing in Story County is eligible to run for any office. Nominations will be taken from the floor and self-nominations are allowed.

Elected officials, candidates, or surrogates are allowed a brief time to address the group.



County Chair, Rules Committee member, or chair’s designee opens the floor for nominations for any of the open precinct committee spots.

Biennial Organizing Meeting Agenda


The County Chair calls the meeting to order.

The County Chair passes the meeting off to a member of the Rules Committee (or their designee) to run the elections.

District Central Committee Members take place. (Story gets 6 members. The Chair, VC, & SCC members are automatic members and don’t count towards the total.)

The newly elected chair runs the next steps of the business meeting.

The group as a whole goes over the planning document that discusses organizing and elections.

The remainder of the meeting is open for questions, discussions, etc.
