Our keynote speaker is author Chris Jones. Chris retired in May of 2023 as a Research Engineer at IIHR-Hydroscience and Engineering at the University of Iowa. His research focus was contaminant hydrology in agricultural landscapes, water monitoring, and municipal drinking water supply. He holds a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from Montana State University and a BA in Chemistry and Biology from Simpson College in Indianola. He has published 55 scientific journal articles, several book chapters, and is the author of The Swine Republic, Struggles with the Truth about Agriculture and Water Quality.

His writing has also appeared in the Cedar Rapids Gazette, Des Moines Register, Civil Eats, and Outdoor America magazine. He's a frequent guest on Iowa Public Radio, numerous podcasts and has appeared on NPR's On Point. He also writes essays regularly for his substack column, found at riverraccoon.substack.com.

Chris' program, This Land is Their Land, will focus on Iowa's historical water quality within the backdrop of its agricultural production systems.
