Come anytime between 11 am and 1 pm to join us to learn how to effectively communicate with your elected officials.
Whether it's calling, emailing, letter writing, or visiting their offices to talk to staff; we'll have the information you need.
We are providing contact information sheets, paper envelopes, pens, and stamps. There will be suggested topics, but everyone is encouraged to focus on the issue that matters to YOU.
If you can't attend, here's contact information for our elected officials:
https://www.storydems.org/new-page-1
-Limit each contact to ONE issue.
-Make a new contact for each issue.
-Be sure to give your full legal name and address
including zipcode.
-All contacts are logged by staff, as long as you give
your information so they know you are a constituent.
-Be brief but do give reasoning for your stance.
For calls: Often there is no answer and you can't leave a message. This is good since it means they're getting lots of calls. Try one of their other offices.
WHAT WE LEARNED FROM REP. FEENSTRA’S STAFF:
No form of contact carries more weight than others.
Contacts using the “contact us” form go directly to the Washington D.C. office.
For time sensitive issues, use email or phone calls.
Contacts are tallied daily, by subject as “for” or “against” and reported to Rep. Feenstra at the close of each business day. So if you are contacting him about something that will be voted on soon, you need to register your opinion, the day BEFORE.
Mailed letters should go to one of the Iowa district offices because they are able to process them faster.
Staff answering the phones will often not be able to answer questions about how Rep. Feenstra plans to vote or what his stance on an issue is. Ask who the legislative aid is for the subject you are interested in for more information.
